Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Hut Camp

Commence your adventure by driving to Machame Gate. As you ascend through the rainforest, the path gradually leads to the Machame Camp. This initial leg offers occasional glimpses of Mount Meru, Shira Ridge, and the majestic Kibo summit. (Distance: 11 km, Hiking Time: 5-7 hours, Habitat: Montane Forest)

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Depart the rainforest and continue your climb, crossing valleys along a rocky ridge. The trail leads to Shira Camp, showcasing panoramic views and an ascent to the elevated Shira campsite. (Distance: 9 km, Walking Time: 4-6 hours, Habitat: Moorland)

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Valley via Lava Tower

Embark on a gentle ascent that unveils panoramic vistas. Traverse the southwestern side of Kilimanjaro, passing beneath the Lava Tower and descending to the Great Barranco Valley. (Distance: 15 km, Walking Time: 5-7 hours, Habitat: Semi-desert)

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

Challenge yourself as you ascend Barranco Wall and journey through Karanga Valley. Reach Barafu Camp, gazing at stunning summit views and resting before the final push. (Distance: 9 km, Walking Time: 6-8 hours, Habitat: Alpine Desert)

Day 5: Barafu Camp to Summit, Down to Mweka Camp

Embark on a pre-dawn ascent towards the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Witness an awe-inspiring sunrise at Stella Point, before continuing to Uhuru Peak – the highest point in Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest. (Distance: 6 km up / 13 km down, Hiking Time: 5-7 hours up / 5-6 hours down, Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit)

Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, Drive to Arusha or Moshi

Descend further to Mweka Gate and receive your summit certificates. Awaiting you at the gate is a Kilimanjaro Nature Tours vehicle, ready to transfer you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. (Distance: 10 km, Hiking Time: 3-4 hours, Habitat: Forest)
